HomeMy WebLinkAbout92-83 . .-J' ., -"'-.~ ' , THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF NEWCASTLE BY-LAW:# 92-83 being a by~law to designate the property known for municipal purposes as the Eldad Church, Solina, located on Part of Lot 27, Concession 6, former Township of Darlington, now in the Town of Newcastle, as a property of historic or architectural value or interest under the Ontario Heritage Act. WHEREAS the Ontario Heritage Act, R.S.O. 1990, C.0.18 authorizes the council of the municipality to enact by-laws to designate properties to be of historic or architectural value or interest for the purposes of the Act; WHEREAS the Council of The Corporation of the Town of Newcastle has caused to be served upon the owner of the property known for municipal purposes as The Eldad Church, located on part of Lot 27, Concession 9, former Township of Darlington, now in the Town of Newcastle and upon the Ontario Heritage Foundation, Notice of Intention to Designate the aforesaid real property and has caused such notice of intention to be published in the Canadian Statesman, a newspaper having a general circulation in the area of the designation, once each week for three consecutive weeks, namely January 8, January 15 and January 22, 1992; and WHEREAS the reasons for the designation of the aforesaid property under the Ontario Heritage Act are contained in Schedule ''B" attached to and forming part of this by-law; and WHEREAS the Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee of the Town of Newcastle has recommended that the property known for municipal purposes as The Eldad Church, Part of Lot 27, Concession 6, former Township of Darlington, now in the Town of Newcastle, be designated as a property of historic or architectural value or interest under the Ontario Heritage Act; and WHEREAS no notice of objection to the proposed designation was served upon the Clerk within the period prescribed by the Ontario Heritage Act. NOW THEREFORE THE COUNCIL OF THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF NEWCASTLE HEREBY ENACTS AS FOLLOWS: 1. The property known for municipal purposes as The Eldad Church, located on part of Lot 27, Concession 6, former Township of Darlington, now in the Town of Newcastle, which is more particularly described in Schedule "A" which is attached to and forms part of this by-law, is hereby designated as a property which has historic or architectural value or interest under Section 29 of the Ontario Heritage Act R.S.O. 1990, C.O.lS 2. The Solicitor for the Town of Newcastle is hereby authorized to cause a copy of this by-law to be registered against the property described in Schedule "A" hereto. 3. The Town Clerk is hereby authorized to cause a copy of this by-law to be served upon the owner of the property described in Schedule "A" hereto and on the Ontario Heritage Foundation. The Clerk also is authorized to cause notice of the passing of this by-law to be published in the Canadian Statesman, a newspaper having general circulation in the are of the designation, once each week for three consecutive weeks. SCHEDULE "B" TO BY-LAW 92-83 The Eldad Church located on part Lot 27, Concession 6, former Township of Darlington, now in the Town of Newcastle, has a very significant historical and architectural value or interest to the Town of Newcastle and its people in that the church built in 1855 is the oldest church building in Darlington Township and possibly in the Town of Newcastle. The following features are designated as being of architectural value: 1. Low pitched gable roof and return eaves; 2. Original Gothic arched windows and original arched entrance to the church; 3. Original choir platform with sponge graining; 4. Original wainscotting in the old Sunday School room and entrance way to the old Sunday School room; and 5. Four panelled doors.
