THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF NEWCASTLE

being a by-law to authorize the Council of
the Town of Newcastle to disseminate information
respecting the advantages of the Town of Newcastle
as an industrial, business, educational, recreational
or vacation centre
WHEREAS Subsection 2a of Section 131 of the Regional Municipality of Durham Act,
provides that the Regional Council may authorize, for such period and on such terms
and conditions as the Regional Council considers desirable, the Council of an
area municipality to exercise the powers conferred on the Council of a municipality
by paragraph 22 of Section 208 of The Municipal Act.
AND WHEREAS the Regional Municipality of Durham did at its meeting of February
15th 1984, enact by-law 24-84 authorizing all of the area municipalities to exercise
the powers contained in paragraph 22 of Section 208 of The Municipal Act without
any terms or conditions.
AND WHEREAS paragraph 22 of Section 208 of the Municipal Act prOVides that by-laws
may be passed by the Councils of all municipalities for providing for
disseminating information respecting the advantages of the municipality as an
industrial, agricultural, business, educational, residential, or vacation centre,
and that the power conferred by this section may be exercised jointly by two or
more municipalities.
NOW THEREFORE THE COUNCIL OF THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF NEWCASTLE HEREBY
ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:
1. That the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Newcastle shall pursuant
to paragraph 22 of Section 208 of The ~1unicipal Act, disseminate information
l~especting the advantages of the Town of Newcastle as an industrial.,
agricultural, business, educational, residential or vacation centre;
2. That in exercising the powers conferred on the Council of the Town of
Newcastle by paragraph 22 of Section 208 of The Municipal Act, the Council
of the Town of Newcastle shall ensure that the programs and policies carried
out pursuant to paragraph 22 of Section 208 of The Municipal Act, shall be
complimentary to the programs and policies of the Regional Municipality of
Durham.
